T J A Tinker, or Thomas John Arthur Tinker, was perhaps more of an amateur than a professional photographer.  In electoral rolls from 1908 to 1919 his occupation was given as either Beamsman (Tanner's Beamsman) or Tanner, so he had a full-time job doing something besides photography.  The two examples of his photographs in the State Library of Victoria show a rubber stamp to identify his work by name, and handwritten notation of Moonee Ponds. These were taken about 1907.  A further couple of photographs he took at the Ascot Vale Bowls rink were published in the Melbourne Punch in 1916.

During this period Tinker was living in Ascot Vale Rd, Ascot Vale, at 241 or 239 at different times.  There were other Tinkers in the area who were most likely related.  The two photos in the State Library show two business premises of Percy H Judd, and appear to have been taken on the same day.  Percy Judd's first office was at 241 Mt Alexander Rd, not far from the Tinker home in Ascot Vale Rd. Judd may have been an acquaintance of Tinker.   Likewise the two photos published in Punch were taken at the Bowls Club which was just off Ascot Vale Rd, so far very local subjects.

He does not get a mention in any newspaper advertisements in Trove for the period.  However, if, as seems possible, he was operating mainly in Moonee Ponds, he may have only advertised in The Essendon Gazette, which is not digitised for the period.

T J A Tinker took these two photos of a the winning championship side from Benalla, and Ballarat,

played at the Ascot Vale Bowls Club.  From Punch, 11 May 1916.  http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article130039037

In the funeral notice above, T J A Tinker was the Secretary of the Ascot Vale Congregational

Church, which was also in Ascot Vale Rd, Ascot Vale. The Age, 4 Feb 1930
